DEATH POEMS

BAND NAME: Death Poems
GENRE: Death Metal / ??? (early), Melodic / Gothic Black Metal (later)
STATUS: Split-up
LOCATION: Brazil (São Bernardo do Campo, São Paulo)

Years active:
February - August 1998 - Ordinance
August 1998-2010 - Death Poems

Formed in February 1998 under the name Ordinance. and were Changed their name later the same year.

According to an interview I've sadly lost the link to, the name "Death Poems" refers to the book of Revelation. (They specifically cite Revelation 2:11 / Apocalipsis 2:11). The band says that Revelation is like "death poems", for those who refuse to heed the prophecies as God warns us.

I don't really know what their old sound was... [here] they say that "Devotional Tour" was death metal, but that demo also had a female vocalist... Under the name Ordinance, they played gothic doom/death, so would that be the style they played here??

In [this interview], the band says the following about their beliefs: "We are Christian, evangelical pentecostals;  we are also praise and worship leaders. I have 15 years of ministerial training, there is 10 working with Christian music, and next year probably one of  us should study Theology. The honor and exaltation of Jesus Christ's name, and the deliverance of lives is the only reason for our music, work and life."

Format: Mini CD

Not sure if this was actually released in the year 1998, or if it was just recorded then?

Devotional Camera (live video, 1998-2000, label unknown)
Format: VHS

Recorded during their 1998 Devotional Tour, but should not be confused with the demo tape listed below. [This interview] confirms they are distinct things.

"This video counts more than 1 hour of presentation, but other bands don't exist playing with us. The 'Devotional Camera' home video doesn't have a professional quality, and in that time our music was still quite experimental. The video continues being distributed but exist new projects for the recording of a new video in soon."

Exact tracklist unknown.

The "Antichrist Shadow" version:

Guest appearances:
Junya Henrich - Vocals (female)
Chryster Espevoll - Lyrics (additional, tracks 3 and 5)

There were plans for an initial release in May 1999, but I'm not sure if that ended up happening, or if it got pushed back to 2000.

The 2001 version with the person standing in front of a temple, was released "about 3 months" after the first edition.[1]

The version with "The Antichrist Shadow" in the title is remastered, and the song "Fall of the False Prophets" has "new arrangements" (whatever that means?)

I currently don't have any more info on the "Ψευδοπροφηταε" version.

The song "Desolate Place" is the song "Øde sted" in English.

"Chryster Espevoll" is credited both as "Chryster" and "Christer" on the band's official pages. I'm not sure which one is correct.

Even though this has a number of songs, and a length, that would indicate a full-length album, the band officially refers to it as a "demo", apparently because they were dissatisfied with the sound quality.

Traduções em português das letras estão disponíveis [aqui].

2000 "ABOUT 200 COPIES" TRACKLIST
1) The First Sunrise
2:45, instrumental

2) Triumphant March (of Jesus)
7:46, lyrics:
I'll go to the top of the mountain
Look to the skies and see into the clouds of Heaven
A white throne
And go there to call out the church
And to march in the four edges of the earth
And see through the sea of fire,
To walk in triumphant march
Triumphant march of Jesus!
Come on, open the gates of heaven
Invites the bride to march around the earth
Shame the evil in the victorious day
Blow Thy sentence of fire to see enemies die
Because they blasphemed our faith
They tried to obscure Thy glory
But right now they are blind because of Thy blaze
Deaf because of the triumphant march of the saints
The triumphant march of Jesus
Triumphant march of the saints
Triumphant march of Jesus
He come on, to show us His glory, and to the honor
Of the Son of Man
To show who is King over the earth
The worthy of the worship of the saints
Of the triumphant march of the saints
This is the triumphant march of Jesus
This is His triumphant march

3) Apocalyptic Visions
2:45, lyrics:
When the thousand years be completed
Satan will be released from his prison
And will come out
To deceive the nations
Which are in the four corners of the earth
Gog and Magog, gather them together for the war
The number of them is like the sand of the seashore
And they came up on the broad plain
And surrounded the champ
Of the saints
And the beloved city
Fire came down from heaven and devoured them
And the devil who deceived them was thrown
Into the lake
Of fire and brimstone,
Where the beast and the false prophet are also
Be torment day and night forever

4) Et Clavis det Mortis (et Inferni)
5:20, lyrics:
From away of this world
The sunrise looks to the skies
And cannot endure
To see the reason of his shine, dying without pride
Sufferer servant, man of pain
Deprivation
Left His Glory down from the skies
I see the nails hurting his flesh
The Son of God is dying like a robber on the cross
Crying loud, calling out for His dad
And angels starts to fly and scream in despair
Michael's army is ready for warfare
But from God they don't listen any order
(Eli, Eli Lama Sabachthani)
He's dead on the cross
Maxim expression of the love from the Son of God
Beacause Jesus Christ was the word, but now is the corpse
Died for us, enduring all the men's sins
Arise the dark of skies
Tear the veil
Revelation
The power of the lamb of God
Went down to hell, before Satan
Take the keys of the abyss gates,
To show who is King
Lucifer now into the prison
Resurrection, by the power of the Son of Man
Et clavis det mortis et inferni
From the hell we are now free

5) Øde sted
4:32, lyrics:
En mørk og dyster bolig
Et Slott fylt med slavesjeler
Ondskapens sanne essens
Evig død er straffen
De nattlige veseners land
Heksenes paradis
Uhellig flimmrende skog
Satanisk forbannelse
Sjelenes evige fengsel
Mørkt og forlatt sted
Hvor ilden fortærer
Flammer som ikke gir lys
Smerteskrik og sår av ild
Evig forbannelse
Satan kan ikke forandre
Sin egen dimensjons sjebne
Guds lams blod
Er det mektigste våpen
Nøkkelen i Herrens seier
Lucifer er nå fanget
I sjelenes evige fengsel
Mørkt og forlatt sted
Hvor ilden fortærer
Flammer som ikke gir lys

6) Pseudoprophetæ
5:44, lyrics:
I closed my eyes and saw a old man
A hidden face behind a mask
He was ruling and spoken
Many words in the name of the Lord
Like a whisper, that sweet voice
Bringing the tears to their eyes
Putting all the love and trust in him
He who are blessing their lifes
But sudden the skies are grey
And falled is the mask
This disfigured face,
The God's place want enthrone
Dressed in black sent by Lucifer
Like a fox between ruins
An angel from hell, with curse and spells
Possessing their souls
With his prophecies of life and death
Pursuit to the body of Christ
With his satanic wisdom
Will take their lifes to the doom
For disgrace of who walk into his ways
The false prophet shall try on,
To destroy the Church of Christ
Deceiver, fallen angel, undressed of Grace
Betrayer, false prophet and Satan’s slave

7) The Satanic Majesty Oversight
7:50, lyrics:
This majestic evil in your eyes
Reflect the hate of your soul
Damn from the ancient circles
That consumes the human life
The satanic majesty oversight
The highest angel of light
Condemned by his vicious pride
Was revealed to us, of his face
The most pathetic side
His majesty was fallen down
When the enlightened truth
Was penetrated the heart of man
For release from the blindness
Satanic oversight
If he goes who says to be
Perhaps it could change
Sathanan, "lord" Lucifer
His destiny of plagues
The authority despised
From his grace was fallen down
Obscure before the light
Of the holy, glorious might
The fall of the antichrist!
The satanic majesty oversight
Cover all the earth
Like a cloud full of deadly deceases
Consuming they from inside
God was sent His only Son
To release the man's soul
The blood of Jesus
Can makes they free!
God destroy those who speak
With falsehood
The Lord abhors the man
Of deceit
From the Throne Of The Light, I hear His voice
His witness of truth
From the darkness of the sin
I am free!
The fall of the Antichrist
Lucifer is fallen
Fallen down!!!
The rise of Jesus Christ!
Jesus Christ is risen
He's alive!

8) Thy Sanctuary
9:20, lyrics:
I can hear the voice of the Lord
From the Throne of the Grace
The worship of angels in beautiful choral
Singing the praise of the saints
In Thy sanctuary
Full of Thy grace
In Thy sanctuary
You take me away
I'm on my knees, making my pray
You take me to a highest place
The touch of your Spirit, Almighty God
Makes me sing: Hallelujah!
In Thy sanctuary
We worship You Lord
In Thy sanctuary
Hallelujah!

Disciple (single, mid-late 2002, Independent)
Format: Digital
Download (OFFICIAL)

Acoustic single.

According to [this page], the song was recorded in mid 2002 and was meant to be an intro for an album. Lyrically, they describe the song as a reflection on Holy Communion, but I can't find the lyrics anywhere.

1) Disciple

Honor & Bravery - The Split EP (split, 2004, Independent)

3) Death Poems - By the Light of Perfection (radio version) 5:17

Brazilian Black Metal - A Light in the Darkness (compilation, 2008, label unknown)
Format unknown

May have been released at [this link] digitally. (See here.) But I'm not certain if that's official or not.

"Ignis Project" is mentioned on that page, and a logo for it is in the top-left corner of this artwork. Is that the label, or...?

2) Death Poems - The Satanic Majesty Oversight 7:50, see above for lyrics

Christian Gothic from Brazil - Dark Nights (compilation, 26 August, 2018, CYBER10)
Format: Digital / Mediafire
Download (OFFICIAL)

This was announced in 2010, but the download link is only from 2018. Was it originally released then, and then re-uploaded, or something?

8) Death Poems - Preludium: The First Sunrise 2:46, instrumental

MISCELLANEOUS
This is a list of releases they've mentioned over the years, but never finished/released.

- Laudate Ðeæum (album)
Mentioned [here]. "... will bring some Songs of Contemplation; the compositions began in August, and the recordings should have beginning in January of 2001. The characteristics of Death Poems's music still the same, however, Laudate Deaum promises to be more technical, fast and harmonious. There will be contemplation hymns as "The First Sunrise" track that opens the first album of the band, and also many medieval arias, above it all, the musical expression of our poetry."

- Dux Cleri - The Law of Blasphemy (album)
Also mentioned [here]. Planned to have 7 songs, and would have been a concept album based on a story that Undarkgoat wrote: "the saga of Lord Klaryon's 'prince of the darkness', against Ya, a humble man, heir of the throne of Celsus, the scenery of the fable."

- no title given (live album / DVD)
Mentioned a few times on their old website. Meant to celebrate the band's 8-year anniversary, so these would have been released around 2006, but they never actually released either of these, as far as I know.

Basically every image here could use a higher-res and/or higher-quality version.

Miscellaneous stuff:

The images used for the "Honor and Bravery" split, both from moodflow

Miscellaneous promotional graphics, etc

Top:
The text here is Revelation 1:17-18 in Latin: et cum vidissem eum cecidi ad pedes eius tamquam mortuus et posuit dexteram suam super me dicens noli timere ego sum primus et novissimus et vivus et fui mortuus et ecce sum vivens in saecula saeculorum et habeo claves mortis et inferni
Bottom:
A similar graphic, in larger res, but in much lower quality. (It was cropped/edited by me, from their YouTube channel icon.)

These are BIZARRE. You'll notice, these are the exact same photograph, just rotated a bit. Everybody is standing in the exact same positions, etc. However, in one, the person on the right has their sleeves rolled up, and in the other, their sleeves are down. How is this even possible?? Did they just photoshop the sleeves??
