DARK PROCESSION

^ Old logo ............... v Newer logo

BAND NAME: Dark Procession
GENRE: Unblack Metal / Ambient / Acoustic Folk / Experimental
STATUS: Unknown
LOCATION: USA (Indianapolis, Indiana)

Drew no longer identifies as Christian. I don't know if the other band members do.

I don't know which band member is pictured above.

The band's genre varies a fair bit. Acoustic/ambient moments appear all throughout, and all releases have "black metal". However, "Ghost Echoes" has some death metal influence, and almost entirely lacks drums. "Mists of Darkness" is very raw, loud black metal mixed with neofolk. "Eternal Autumn Solitude" leans a bit more toward ambient, even post-black. None of these are played in a conventional metal style.

Not sure when the band formed, but they were at least active in late 2005, as that's when recording for "Ghost Echoes" started.

An ex-drummer named Mures (from Romania) is mentioned in the "thanks" section of Mists of Darkness. I don't currently know if Mures was ever a full band member, or maybe just appeared on something as a guest? I do know that Mures did not appear on Mists of Darkness, nor on Ghost Echoes.

Lineup:
Drew M. / "DP" - Everything (early), Vocals, Guitars, Synths (later)
Mike - Bass
Russell / "Elkosh" - Drums

Ghost Echoes (album, 29 July, 2006, Gud er Sannhet Records)
Format: CD-R, slimcase, limited 50 copies

There may have been a 2nd pressing in 2007, also limited 50 copies.

Oddly, this is a metal album yet it has almost no percussion. Percussive sound effects are used very sparingly, but the music is entirely guided by guitars and keyboards.

Also, the insert opens like a booklet (cover being on the front; tracklist being on the back) yet the inside is blank.

1) Fading Autumn
1:51, instrumental

2) Portrait of Silence
7:30, lyrics unknown

3) Upon My Return...
3:55, breathing/whispering, no actual lyrics

4) Forest Throne
3:56, instrumental

5) As I Silently Watch
6:54, lyrics unknown

6) Mist
3:39, lyrics unknown

7) Twilight
4:26, lyrics unknown

8) Farewell Ashes
4:50, lyrics unknown

9) The Dawn Haunts the Ghost
3:57, lyrics:
Wandering...
Searching for the wind
Whispers in my ear
Of past promises
As old as the trees

Dying
Autumn breeze
Beneath my skin
A pillar of stone (stone...)
Etched sorrows
Patterns in the leaves

Returning
I see you clearly
As the night
Ethereal twilight
Illuminates the fire
Burning the sun

Leaving
The dawn haunts the ghost
A faint calling
I cannot return
For I am wandering forever

Mists of Darkness (EP, December, 2006, Gud er Sannhet Records)
Format: CD-R, slimcase, 50 copies ("first pressing"?)

This insert has stuff on the inside. Top layout pictures are the outside of the insert; bottom pictures are the inside. Also, despite pictures online showing this with a green/teal-ish tint, the artwork is actually in black and white.

Metal Archives claims there's a cover of Darkthrone's "En vind av sorg" on this. However, there isn't. I have no idea where this information came from.

1) Intro
2:54, instrumental

2) Mists of Darkness
7:18, lyrics:
As these bleak moments of nothingness, I depart from the decaying ash
I wander into the mists of darkness, it forms into nothing
Just as I come from the void, I return to it with arms embracing

The morning rises and I see the moor in the fog
I enter into the gates of a forgotten dream
Beneath the moor, beneath my soul
Breathe out the last, breathe in the first

My cold distance, a whisper tells me to come farther down
Hide from the light and you cannot be seen
Dwell in the dark and you cannot be heard
Die alone with only a dead whisper in your head

I awake, but all is wrong, all is gone
It was all around me, but I died to it
Come, we await you I hear
But nothing is there

3) Burn the Twilight
6:00, lyrics:
Decayed painting
Shadows of the past
A picture of a fading smile
Turns to grey dust on the mantle
Ashes of torment
Empty halls, empty rooms
Silence within these walls
Black mirrors depraved
Reveal inner emptiness
Hollow corpses of thought

A dark procession for the remembrance
Procession into the night’s abyss
…Where I have been all along…
There is no going back
There is no sympathy
There is no deceit

You said, you would never destroy me
You said, you would never give up hope
You said, you would take me from here

A dark procession into the twilight
Burn the remembrance into the sky and fade away

4) Nox Noctis
5:36, instrumental

5) Amidst Sorrow
3:47, instrumental

Requiem IV (split)

Left: 16 Apr. - 31 Dec., 2008, Gud er Sannhet Records, CD (in DVD case)
Right: ????, Gud er Sannhet Records, CD (in jewel case)
(not pictured) ????, (Open Grave/Sullen), CD, UNOFFICIAL

Split with Flaskavsae.
Planned for 2007 but was delayed.

The promotional poster at the bottom of the page says this is a concept album, but I'm not really certain what the concept is. Possibly death, since it's called "Requiem" and a few of Flaskavsae's song titles mention death?

2) Dark Procession - Bereavement
10:41
3) Dark Procession - The Mourning
7:18
4) Dark Procession - Beneath the Sky We Die and Drown in the Moors
7:45

Faith in the Blood of Christ (split, 2 September, 2008, EEE Recordings)

"All proceeds (aside from shipping costs)" went to Steve Rowe (Mortification)'s medical expenses.
WS has stated that not all bands on this split are Christian.

2) Dark Procession - Celestial Depths Ruin 6:45

Eternal Autumn Solitude (album, 22 February, 2011, EEE Recordings)
Format: CD-R

The album art is used in the comments on [this page] from 11 December 2008, indicating either this was being worked on for a long time, or it had a lot of setbacks!

2) Eternal Autumn Solitude 20:07
3) Haven of Fire 11:32
4) Midsummer Reveries 6:13, instrumental
5) Forests of the Dawn 5:45
6) Upon the Harvest Sky 9:29
7) Hymns of the Ashes 4:53, instrumental

Missing lyrics. Almost every image here is low-quality. Who is in the band picture? So much is missing from this page. If you have anything at all, let me know, thanks!

Miscellaneous stuff:
Left: Much larger, but not stylized, version of the old logo.
Right: Alternate square version of "Requiem IV", found on Dark Procession's Myspace. Not actually sure if this one, or the one featured above, were used on the CD itself.
Although Dark Procession's earlier releases were published in black and white, they were made in color. These are Ghost Echoes (left) and Mists of Darkness (right) with color. Note also, even though it's sadly very small res, you can see that Ghost Echoes also lacks text at this early stage.

Promo pics including Dark Procession. Sadly these are the largest res I have.
