SIGNUM CRUSIS / KORSFERD

Early names for Vaakevandring. If any particularly interesting information is revealed about these early projects, I'll split them into separate pages. But for now, it just makes more sense to condense them into one page.

Formed around 1996 as Signum Crusis

Founding members:
Ronny Hansen - Vocals, Guitars, Bass, Keyboards (early), Bass (later)
Pål Dæhlen - Drums, Vocals (additional)

"We had no spesific goals, it was just to play fast, scary and as an answer to all those early black metal acts such as Dark Throne, Mayhem and Burzum. We were covering a few songs of them (with, of course, a christian view) This project was just for fun, and to provoke people on the secular scene."

In early 1997, Morten Sigmund Magerøy joined on guitars
Then Alexander Nygård joined on guitars as well.
Then they changed their name to Korsferd.
Korsferd is the Norwegian word for "crusade".

Ronny switched to vocals, and shortly after, Trond Bjørnstad joined on bass.

Then the band's name was changed to Vaakevandring.

 

Apparently Morten, Alex, and Trond all belonged to a secular band called Inertia. Morten joined Signum/Korsferd while Inertia was "falling apart", and the other 2 joined after it spit up completely. Morten was a Christian, while Alex and Trond were not.
