The band name is a reference to Matthew 27:51, which mentions the veil in the temple in Jerusalem being torn in two at the moment of Jesus' crucifixion. In addition to demonstrating a miraculous act of God (since human beings did not tear this veil; it tore, ostensibly, on its own), this event also carries symbolic meaning. The place behind this veil was extremely sacred, such that no human was permitted to enter it except for a priest; and even then, the priest could only enter once per year, after ceremoniously cleansing himself. The tearing of this veil demonstrated that Christ's crucifixion became the only way to God -- no more sacrifices were necessary, because Christ was the sacrifice. There was no need for "holy places" or ceremonious cleansing; the "holy of holies" is now available to everybody, at all times, not hidden behind a curtain.
